What is Soda and Dry Ice Blasting?

Similar in nature, soda and dry ice blasting are cleaning methods commonly used in restoration services. But what is the difference? Dry Ice Blasting is a form of carbon monoxide cleaning where the ice is accelerated through a pressurized air stream and directed towards a surface. The method is non-abrasive, non-flammable and non-toxic.
Soda Blasting is similar to dry ice except it uses sodium bicarbonate instead of carbon monoxide. It’s a milder form of abrasive blasting, and also non-destructive to the surfaces it cleans.

What are the advantages?
Some advantages to these two types of blasting cleaning methods are they are more efficient and effective at removing surface contamination than hand cleaning techniques. Dry Ice produces less waste and/or dust as the media evaporates after hitting the surface. Soda has the added benefit of deodorizing while cleaning. This is because of the baking soda.
What is Dry Ice and Soda Blasting Used for?
- Cleaning of surfaces which have been subject to fire damage or soot contamination
- Cleaning surfaces that have mold contamination
- Used to prepare surfaces to apply smoke sealant
- Removal of graffiti from surfaces
- Aids in cleaning stone, brick, concrete, wood framing, wood sheathing and more
